Get to know Amber

Amber Johnson is a native of Minnesota and grew up in the small rural town of Blooming Prairie.  She was active in many school activities ranging from starring in the high school musical to serving as Senior Class President.  She attended St. Cloud State University as an Honor Student and worked on a major in Mass Communications, Television Production. During her junior year, she made a life changing decision to participate in a study abroad program through Eastern Michigan University. On this “cultural history tour” she backpacked through Europe, visiting nine different counties and see more museums, churches and landmarks than she could count.

Amber graduated summa cum laude from St. Cloud in the spring of 2004.  That summer, she packed up her car and moved to California. Amber hit a bit of luck and got a job in the production office for the sketch comedy show Blue Collar TV. She worked her way up to Travel Coordinator and Assistant to the Producer.  At the end of filming of the second season, the cast and crew were told the show would not have a third.  After about year of working in television production in Los Angeles, Amber had an opportunity to reflect on her career and future.  The Producer she worked for had offered to mentor her, but she didn’t know if Producing was the right fit.

Law had always been an interest to Amber and after gaining experience and insight in California, she decided that the legal profession was where she would rather be. Amber returned to Minnesota where she worked while she studied for the LSAT and applied to law schools.  She attended the University of Minnesota Law School where she competed on the International Moot Court Competition Team, participated in a Prosecution Clinic and took as many Trial Practice classes she could find.

Amber didn’t set out to be a criminal defense attorney. It was something that found her.  Now, there is no other type of law she would rather practice.  Criminal defense requires compassion, creativity, intellect, and grit.  Amber fights for her clients.  She knows that often people in the criminal justice system feel like a cog in the wheel, defined by their offense, and guilty until proven innocent.  She is committed to showing that defendants are not their offense, they are real people.  She understands that defendant’s lives are forever affected by the criminal justice system and they deserve to be represented by a aggressive advocate like herself.
